Description

France. Treasury banknotes. Territories occupied after 1945. Saarland. 1947 Issue. 1 Mark Sarre Type 1947 (Ref. Fayette-Dessal: # VF.44, Pick: # 3, Schwan-Boling: # 1901, Rosenberg: # 867 or Grabowski: # SAR-8). Work by Munier and engraving by Deloche for the front and by Bornet for the back. Dimensions: 82 x 52 mm. Printer: Banque de France. Watermark: no. Front and back: polychrome print with dominant brown, orange and blue. Description of the front: beveled brown frame composed of small repeating patterns. In the upper part, a cartouche with the mention "SARRE 1947" in brown. On the sides the value printed in blue. Below, in the center in a circular medallion decorated with scrolls, a crowned portrait of Zeus, god of the Greek Pantheon. Around it, a safety background made up of patterns printed in blue in which we can guess two winged sphinxes! Below, the value in letters "UN MARK" is printed in brown. At the bottom, a rectangular cartridge placed on the frame contains the numbering printed in black. The note does not have signatures or an issue date. Description of the back: composition identical to the front but the value in letters is printed in German "EINE MARK". In the center, a representation of Ceres, the Roman goddess of Agriculture and harvest. She holds in her hands a cornucopia and a bouquet of flowers. Below in a rectangular frame, the law article is printed on four lines in French and German. In the corners, the patterns are this time printed in yellow. The specimen of the note is known numbered "A.00000000" and perforated "SPECIMEN". It is also possible that the banknote exists in front and / or back proof uniface and with large margins or without.
