Madagascar. Colony of Madagascar and Dependancies. 1917 Issues. Creation date: March 29, 1917. Designer and engraver unknown. Dimensions: 150 x 101 mm. No security thread. Watermark: No. Printer: Official Printing Office of Antananarivo. Front and back: two-color printing, predominantly blue and pink. Description of the front: frame made up of interlaced blue shapes. The texts are in French. The front is overprinted “CANCELLED” in green diagonally. The labels of the issuing institute "COLONY OF MADAGASCAR AND DEPENDANCIES", the text guaranteeing the issue, the signatures and the date of issue are printed in black. The drawing in pink illustrates an indigenous woman on the left and a prickly pear on the right. Only one type of signature is known with The Finance Director Robert-Paul de Guise and The Treasurer-Payer Jean-Baptiste Vuillod. Description of the back: frame composed of interlaced pink shapes. Texts in French and in Malagasy. The labels of the issuing institute "COLONY OF MADAGASCAR AND DEPENDANCIES" and the text of the law guaranteeing the issue, in Malagasy language, are printed in black. On the sides, two pink medallions with the motto of France and the design of the 5-franc coin Hercule of the french artist Dupré. This note is part of a series also comprising a 5-franc note and a 20-franc note. These have never been issued. Very rare.
