Description

French West Africa. Bank of West Africa. 1942-1943 Issues. 10 francs Type 1943. Work by M. Cochard and engraving by C. Hervé. Printer: Imprimerie du Ruisseau, Algiers. Dimensions: 98 x 68 mm. Watermark: No. Front and back: multicolored print, mainly purple, orange and brown. On the front: purple frame composed of abstract leaves. In the center, bust of young Foulah woman in profile on a seaside background in yellow monochrome. Above, the issuing institute "BANQUE DE L'AFRIQUE OCCIDENTALE (BANK OF WEST AFRICA)" and the date of issue. The value in figures is printed in purple at the top left in a large rosette and the value in letters in the center. The numbering is printed in black and the signatures are printed in purple. A single type of signature with The Secretary General, Pierre Bourceret and The Comptroller General, Claude Bottin. On the back: purple frame composed of abstract leaves. In the center, the value in figures and the value in letters superimposed are printed in purple above a composition of rosettes decorated on a yellow background. Above, the title "BANQUE DE L'AFRIQUE OCCIDENTALE" in cursive letters. Below in a brown cartridge, article 139 of the Penal Code is printed in purple. The specimen is known numbered “0.00-000”, with the specimen printed in black vertically on the right on the front and back. A note is known numbered "Y.131-982" with perforation "CANCELLED" and a handwritten number "149" on the front top right.
