Description
Switzerland. Swiss National Bank (Schweizerische Nationalbank). Fifth issue (1954-1977). This is the first time a 10-franc note has been designed and issued for Switzerland. The note is dated 25-08-1955 but its entry into circulation begins from 01-10-1956. Permanently removed from circulation on 01-05-1980. Work by Hermann Eidenbenz. Printer: Art Institute Orell Füssli in Zurich. Dimensions: 137 x 75 mm. No watermark. No security thread. Front and back: print in red-brown, purple and pink. Front: background consisting of graphic scroll shapes with a rosette with the Swiss cross in white. The numbering, the alphabet, the place, the date of issue and the signatures are printed in black. The SNB texts and the value in letters are printed in purple and in three languages: French, German and Italian. The value "10" is printed obliquely in the corners of the vignette and very large in the center. On the right, medallion portrait of "Gottfried Keller (1819-1890)", novelist and German-speaking Swiss poet. Twenty-one issue dates and thirteen signature variants with The Cashier, The Chairman of the Board of the Bank and The Director. Back: on a background of curved lines in red and violet, a rampant Benoîte, flower of the mountains called "octopus of alpine scree" with the value "10" to the right of the flower and all around, the names of the SNB in three languages. Known specimen in the "3A series", unnumbered with "SPECIMEN" overprint in diagonal red on front and back. 4045160 banknotes were not returned. Other Reference: TBB (The Banknote Book): B331.
