Fayette-Dessal: # F.A48 or Pick: # 63). Work by Paul Baudry and engraving by Jules Robert. Dimensions: 180 x 112 mm. Printer: Bank of France. Material: Paper. Watermark: Profile of Ceres in negative on the left and profile of Mercury in positive on the right. Colors front and back: printing in "celestial" blue (Black is abandoned because counterfeiters use the daguerreotype process). Description of the front: In an elegant blue cartouche decorated with fine engravings, two women are shown dressed in the antique style, leaning on an oval blue medallion in which article 139 of the Criminal Code is inscribed. The numbers and letters, alphabet, date and numbering are printed in black. At the top center, "Industry" & "Commerce" and below "BANQUE DE FRANCE" then the value "CENT FRANCS". On the left, a first young woman symbolizing the allegory of Navigation, holds a saffron by its wick. On the right, a second young woman representing the allegory of Agriculture holds a scythe between her left arm and her right leg. Two watermarks on either side of the value of the 100-franc note. There are four combinations of signatures with The Chief Cashier and the Secretary General (see below). Description of the back: Printing in "celestial" blue. In the center of the composition, two women symbolizing Wisdom and Fortune are represented in front of a tree next to which is a corm of plenty. On the sides, two medallions made of garlands contain the watermarks. On either side of the note, two cupids hold coats of arms with a sea anchor entwined by a fish and surmounted by the value of the "100" note. At the top center, “BANQUE DE FRANCE” then at the bottom centered “LA SAGESSE FIXE LA FORTUNE”. The specimen of the banknote does not appear to exist. Only uniface proofs dated February 31, 1882, March 15, 1882, August 15, 1882 and April 31, 1884 are known. The amount authorized for creation was 41,875,000 banknotes, ie 1,675 alphabets of 25 letters or 1,000 banknotes per letter.
