Description
Belgium & France. Treasury. Occupied territories after 1918. The Railways Authority of Occupied Territory (R.C.F.T.O). 1923 issue. Withdrawn from circulation on December 31, 1924. 100 francs Type 1923 (Reference: Pirot: # 135-10, Pick: # R10, Rosenberg: # 864 or Grabowski: # RPR-65). Work by R. Vergnot and engraving by E. De Ruaz. Dimensions: 175 x 110 mm. Printer: Paul Dupont, Paris. Watermark: RCFTO letters. Front and back: polychrome print with dominant gray-green, orange and pink. Description of the front: printing on thick off-white paper. Gray-green and orange floral frame with a locomotive at the top. The series and banknote number are printed in black. Below, a banner in the form of an unrolled parchment on which one can read: "THE RAILWAYS AUTHORITY OF THE OCCUPIED TERRITORIES". We find this text printed in repetition on a pink safety background to prevent counterfeits. The face value is displayed in letters and numbers in the center of the note, in two lines above a landscape of the Ruhr in a pink medallion. A single type of signature with Colon, The Head of General Accounting and Bréaud, the Director of Management. Description of the back: the floral frame is still present but more stylized. In the background, a representation of the city of Mainz seen from the Rhine and the elongated god Neptune holding a cornucopia and an overturned pitcher of water ... The jug bears the Latin inscription "RHINUM", symbolizing that water which comes out is that of the Rhine! The face value in numbers is written inside a circle on the left. In the upper part, we can read a warning text written in French and German which specifies that: "ANY PERSON WHO WILL HAVE COUNTERFEITED OR FALSIFIED BANKNOTES OR MADE USE OF COUNTERFEIT OR FALSIFIED BANKNOTES WILL BE PUNISHED BY THE HIGH INTERALLIEE COMMISSION OF RHENANS TERRITORIES ”. Finally, the names of the artist "R. Vergnot del" and the engraver "E. De Ruaz sculp" are printed under the lower border of the bill. The specimen is known with the series "00" and numbered "000,000" with an overprint "SPECIMEN" oblique in the lower right border. A series “B.21” specially designed for collectors is known with a numbering “000,000” and with a normal numbering.The photo note comes from the Ibrahim Salem collection, Spink sale of 2018. All the issued notes are supposed to be returned and destroyed!
