Description

French West Africa. Bank of West Africa. Issues from 1933-1945. 100 francs Type 1936. Work by Sébastien Laurent and engraving by Hourriez. Printer: Bank of France, Paris. Dimensions: 163 x 95 mm. Watermark: head of young African woman from the front. Front and back: multicolored print, mainly purple, brown and yellow. On the front: frame composed of repetitive geometric shapes. Against a background of lattices, two young indigenous women wear jewelry and a traditional headdress. Above in the center in blue, the issuing institute "BANQUE DE L'AFRIQUE OCCIDENTALE (BANK OF WEST AFRICA)". The value “100” is printed in blue in the two upper corners. The numbering, date and signatures are printed in black. A single type of signature with The President, Geo;rges Keller and The Director General, Edwin Poilay. On the back: plant composition with in the foreground, a young indigenous woman carrying a basket on her head. On the right, article 139 of the Penal Code is printed in a white cartridge. The specimen is known on an issued note, perforated "SPECIMEN" and perforated "CANCELLED" with the signatures G. Keller / E. Poilay. Two front/back proofs are known on fiduciary paper with wide margins, without watermark, pasted on a cardboard page with windows, dated “00-00-0000”, numbered “0.000-000”. The specimen is also known to be unperforated.
