French Polynesia. Tahiti. Bank of Indochina. 1920-1963 Issues. Banknote of 50 piastres Type 1946 of the Bank of Indochina (Ref. Pick Pick: # 77) overprinted "PAPEETE". Dimensions: 152 x 63 mm. Watermark: No. The note is undated but was issued in 1943. Printer: American Bank Note Company (ABNC). Front and back printing in green monochrome. Texts in French. Description of the front: ornamental frame with geometric repeating patterns. Stylized flowers in the corners. Under the upper border, the label "BANK OF INDOCHINA" is printed in dark green. Below, the eight-digit number printed in red, then article 139 of the penal code printed in dark green on two lines. On the left, a green oval rosette. Several surcharges are affixed to the note. A “PAPEETE” surcharge in black at the top right. In the green cartouche in the center reserved for the value in letters, an overprint of “100 FRANCS” in black. Below, the mention "PIASTRES" is overprinted "TAHITI" in black. A single combination of handwritten or printed signature with the Inspector General and the Director of the Branch (from Saigon barred in black). However, the ticket only has one signature, most often that of Émile Dufour or Jean Millaud. The numbering and the series are printed in red at the bottom. On the right, a young Asian girl wearing a Chinese hat is crouching behind her wicker baskets containing vegetables. Back description: ornamental frame with geometric repeating patterns. The Chinese texts on the left are overprinted "CENT FRANCS" in black vertical. On the right, the word "Đồng vàng (Gold coin)" and the other Chinese texts below are overprinted with small black pictograms. In the center, a bas-relief of the temple of Angkor Thom in Cambodia representing Hindu gods (najas) holding Vasuki, the king of snakes. The specimen is known overprinted "SPECIMEN" in red diagonally. The specimen is also known on banknotes issued with several overprints "CANCELLED" diagonally by a purple wet stamp.
