Description

New Hebrides. Bank of Indochina. Provisional Issues (1941-1963). A New Caledonia banknote Type (Pick: # 47b) is overprinted front/back on the left in red and horizontal with the words "NOUVELLES HEBRIDES". Dimensions: 180 x 76 mm. No date but issued in 1948. The front and back printing is monochrome, predominantly blue. Texts in French. Description of the front: on the left, an illustration of one of the two railings of the Angkor Thom bridge representing Hindu gods (najas) holding Vasuki, the king of snakes. Several surcharges are affixed to the note. A first overprint "NOUMÉA, Emission 1944" in black at the top right. In the blue cartouche in the center reserved for the value in letters, an overprint of “MILLE FRANCS” in black. Below, the words "PIASTRES" and the titles of the signatories are hidden by black rectangles. On the right, the oval medallion is overprinted with the value "1000" in black. Article 139 of the penal code is printed in blue on three lines at the top right. The numbering is printed in blue. A single type of signature printed in black with The Director of the Branch Jules Perraud and a proxyholder René Tardieu. Description of the back: a group of six Asian farmers with their palanche on their shoulders walk in single file along the shore of a lake. Indochinese inscriptions are also overprinted with black rectangles. Printer: American Bank Note Company (ABNC). Very rare note with 15,900 issued notes.
