New Hebrides. Overseas Issuing Institute (IEOM). 1965-1969 Issues. The note is overprinted on the back in the center in blue and horizontal with the word "NOUVELLES-HÉBRIDES". Work by Vaudiau. Dimensions: 160 x 85 mm. Watermark: RF monogram and head of woman (Marianne) wearing a Phrygian cap. Solid security thread with printed IEOM. The note is undated but was issued in 1969. Full color front and back printing mainly in red, yellow and green. Texts in French. Description of the front: background composed of Tahitian sarong patterns and hibiscus flowers. In the center at the top, the label "OVERSEAS ISSUING INSTITUTE" is printed in black in a light green cartridge. Below, the full banknote number is printed in black in a pink cartouche. On the right, a circular medallion containing the watermark and a young Polynesian girl with flowers in her hair, wears a necklace of frangipani flowers. On the left, a typical Polynesian hut surrounded by palm trees. The value "1000" is printed in black in orange rectangles in the upper corners. The numbering and the alphabet are printed in black in small yellow rectangles at the bottom and at the top of the note. A single combination of signatures printed in black with The Chief Officer André Postel-Vinay and The Chairman of the Board Bernard Clappier. Description of the back: background composed of tapas motifs from Wallis and Futuna. In the center at the top, the label "OVERSEAS ISSUING INSTITUTE" is printed in black in a yellow cartridge. Below, the light blue overprint "NOUVELLES-HÉBRIDES". On the left, a church on the Isle of Pines in New Caledonia and a local bird, the cagou. On the right side, a deer and a doe, a Kanak hut typical of New Caledonia and two wooden Tiki totems. The value "1000" is printed in black in the upper corners. Bottom center, article 139 of the penal code is printed on four lines in a light blue cartridge. Printer: Bank of France. 213,919 issued notes. Aphabets 1 and 2 complete, except alphabet C.1 (from 1 to 32999). The specimen is known overprinted "SPECIMEN" diagonally with a specimen number and perforated "SPECIMEN" in vertical on the right and numbered "O.0 - 00000". According to an annotation noted in The Banknote Book, Greta Robson-Goy, wife of Gilles Goy, commander of the French navy's escort ship "Enseigne de vaisseau Henry", is the model of the woman on the note.
