Description
Switzerland. Swiss National Bank (Schweizerische Nationalbank). Second issue (1910-1955). The notes of the first series are dated 01-01-1910 but the entry into circulation is only effective from 16-09-1911. The banknote is definitively withdrawn on 01-10-1958. Work of Eugene Burnand. Printer: Waterlow & Sons Ltd., London. Dimensions: 216 x 131 mm. No watermark. No security thread. Front and back: purple and orange print. Front: vignette composed of rosettes and ornaments. The numbering, the alphabet, the labels, the place and date of issue and the signatures are printed in black. The value "1000" is repeated three times in the corners of the thumbnail. The texts are printed in three languages: French, German and Italian. Law text: "Gesetz vom 6. Okt. 1905". On the left below, medallion portrait of a young woman painted by Eugene Burnand. Three issue dates and seven signature variants with The Cashier, The President of the Bank Council and The Director. Back: frame composed of rosettes and ornaments with the value "1000" repeated four times in medallion in the corners. In the center, a composition by painter Eugene Burnand representing metalworkers pouring molten metal from crucible in foundry. In the context around, the texts in three languages: French, German and Italian. Specimen known unnumbered and unsigned with "SPECIMEN" overprint in red and diagonally on the front and back with sometimes cancellation perforations. Another known specimen in unnumbered brown and unsigned, with two "SPECIMEN / NO VALUE" surcharges in red and diagonally on the front and back, with a blue round seal from the W & S printer on the front. 14914 copies are not returned to the cash register.
