French Polynesia. Tahiti. Bank of Indochina. 1920-1963 Issues. 1954 Provisional Issues. Reuse of the 100 Piastres Type 1946 banknote (Ref. Pick # 78). Dimensions: 180 x 76 mm. Watermark: no. The note is undated but was issued in 1954. Front and back printing in blue monochrome. Texts in French. Printer: American Bank Note Company (ABNC). Description of the front: ornamental frame with geometric repeating patterns. Under the upper border, the label "BANK OF INDOCHINA" is printed in dark blue. Below, the eight-digit number in dark blue. Several overprints are affixed to the note. A first “PAPEETE, Issue 1954” overprint in black at the top right. In the blue cartouche in the center reserved for the value in letters, an overprint of “MILLE FRANCS” in black. Below, the mention "PIASTRES" is overprinted "TAHITI" in black and the titles of the original signatories are hidden by black rectangles and replaced by The Director General, François de la Motte Ango de Flers and The President, Émile Minost. On the right, the oval medallion is overprinted with the value "1000" in black. Article 139 of the penal code is printed in blue on three lines at the top right. The numbering and the series are printed in dark blue. On the left, an illustration of one of the two railings on the Angkor Thom bridge representing Hindu gods (najas) holding Vasuki, the king of snakes. Back description: ornamental frame with geometric repeating patterns. A group of six Asian peasants with their palanche on their shoulders walk in single file along the shore of a lake. A “PAPEETE” overprint in black and another “FRANCS MILLE TAHITI” overprint in black on the right. Indochinese inscriptions are also overprinted with black floral patterns. Rare. 50,000 issued notes. The specimen is known on a issued note perforated "SPECIMEN" in red diagonally.
