Description

Gabon. Bank of Central African States (BEAC). 1984-1991 Issues. Dimensions: 155 x 78 mm. Material: paper. Watermark: sculpture. Printer: Oberthur Fiduciaire. No security thread. The note is dated 1-01-1985. Multicolored front and back print, predominantly blue and purple. Texts in French. Description of the front: security background with printing of relief patterns. In the center at the top, the words "GABONESE REPUBLIC" are printed in dark blue. Below, the full banknote number is printed in black. Below, a map of the countries of Central Africa with small miniature drawings illustrating each country. On the top of the map, the border lines of Chad are incomplete (1). The value in letters “THOUSAND FRANCS” is printed in dark blue in the card. The value "1000" is printed in white with a blue outline in the upper corners. The signatures, number and series are printed in black. On the left, a wooden sculpture representing two stylized antelopes and the watermark next to it. On the right, a portrait in costume of Omar Bongo Ondimba. A single combination of signatures printed in black with Le Gouverneur, Casimir Marie-Ange Oyé-Mba and Un Censeur, Jean-François N'toutoume Emane. Description of the back: outline composed of geometric shapes in blue and purple. In the center at the top, the label of the issuing institute "BANK OF CENTRAL AFRICAN STATES" is printed in dark blue with a white outline. On the left, an elephant and in the center, an African landscape with a giraffe and five antelopes. The value "1000" is printed in white with a blue outline in the opposite corners. On the right, the watermark and a wooden sculpture representing an ancestral seated figure. Bottom center, the article of the penal code is printed in a light green cartridge. No specimen known for Type.

(1) Following the circulation of the note, the government of Chad asked that the banknote be withdrawn from circulation because the outline of the country's border was incomplete (see upper border of the note on the front).
