Italy. Banca d'Italia. 1947-1961 Issues. Banknote identical to Pick # 82 but with the "Medusa" seal on the front. Dimensions: 156 x 75 mm. Watermark: head of Italy in profile. Printer: Officina dell'Istituto Poligrafico dello Stato di Roma and Officina della Banca d'Italia di Roma. No security thread. Material: paper. Polychrome front and back printing, predominantly dark blue, brown and red. Description of the front: frame composed of guilloche patterns. On the left in an oval medallion with a decorated outline, an allegorical female figure personifying Italy. Bottom center, a red seal with the head of "Medusa". The date of issue is printed in red in the lower margin. The numbering is printed in black and the signatures are printed in dark blue. Three combinations of signatures with The Governor and The Cashier. Description of the back: frame and safety bottom composed of guilloche patterns. The words "Banca d'Italia" in a curved banner at the top, the value "1000" in a rosette in the center and the text of the law below. On the right, the Bank of Italy “BI” monogram in an oval guilloche medallion. On the left, the watermark in another oval medallion. No specimen known for the Type. Replacement note with W, X series.
