French West Africa. Emergency Issue of 1940. Provisional government. 2 francs Type 1940 blue. Printer: unknown, printed locally. Dimensions: 100 x 70 mm. Watermark: No. Front and back: monochrome printing in blue. On the front: simple frame composed of repeating leaves. In the center, an exotic landscape with a view of the sea. A coconut palm tree on the left and a pirogue stranded on the shore. On the right, the issuing institute "AFRIQUE OCCIDENTALE FRANCAISE (FRENCH WEST AFRICA)" is printed on three lines and decorated with arabesques. Below, article 139 of the Penal Code is printed on four lines in a rectangle. The numerical value is printed very large in the center at the bottom. The note has no numbering, date and signatures. On the back: detailed graphic composition with the value in letters and the acronym "AOF (FWA)" at the bottom of the bill. Texts in French and in Wolof language in the center. No specimen known for this Type. 20,000,000 copies were put into circulation and withdrawn on April 4, 1945.
