A New Caledonia banknote Type (Pick: # 50) is double-sided overprinted in the center in red and horizontally with the words "NOUVELLES HÉBRIDES". Work by Pierre Munier and engraving by Georges Régnier for the front and Chapon for the back. Dimensions: 132 x 72 mm. Watermark: man's head in profile. The note is undated but was issued in 1954. Full color red and green and blue printing on the front and back. Texts in French. Description of the front: country scene with a shepherd and his flock of sheep in the center. On the right, a young man plays the flute. On the left in the foreground, the portrait of a young shepherd and next to it, the overprint "NOUMÉA" in vertical, is printed in dark blue on a background of stylized leaves. The wording “BANQUE DE L'INDOCHINE (BANK OF INDOCHINA)” and the overprint “NOUVELLES HÉBRIDES” are printed in the upper center under the banknote number. The numbering and the alphabet are printed in black in cartridges at the bottom of the composition. Two combinations of signatures: a) The President and the Executive Vice-President, b) The President and the Executive Director. Description of the back: bottom composed of intertwined shapes. On the right, a young woman wearing a white scarf. On the left, a column on which are placed bunches of various fruits. Above, the value in letters and the overprint "NOUMÉA" are printed in dark blue. The watermark in the form of a coat of arms is at the center of the composition. At the bottom, the overprint “NOUVELLES HÉBRIDES” is printed in red on a bas-relief. The article of the penal code is printed in dark green in a light green cartridge. The banknote amount “20” is printed in dark blue at the top right. Printer: Bank of France. Two types of “NOUVELLES HÉBRIDES” overprints are known: 1) a first overprint measuring 49 x 2.5 mm and comprising serif letters, 2) a second overprint measuring 74 x 3 mm and comprising letters without serif.
