Description
French Equatorial Africa (AEF). Central Bank of Overseas France (CCFO). No date (1943). Work by Edmund Dulac. Dimensions: 135 x 75 mm. Printer: Bradbury and Wilkinson of London. Banknote without watermark. No security thread. Front and back: printing in green on a security background in purple and yellow gradient composed of geometric patterns repeated continuously. On the front: the value "20" is repeated on the left and right of the note. Numbering printed in red or black. Signatures, values and labels are printed in green. In the center, in a dark green oval in the shape of an eye, a portrait of Marianne wearing a Phrygian cap in profile. Marine anchors with cross of Lorraine on both sides of the figure. Two variants of signatures: The Chief Executive Officer and The Chairman of the Supervisory Board. On the back: guillochages in the angles on a security background in yellow and purple shading and in an oval, article 139 of the Penal Code framed by the value "20" repeated on the left and on the right. Order of February 2, 1944. Issues for Brazzaville and Cameroon. The specimen is known to only 53 copies signed André Duval / James Leclerc with a red "SPÉCIMEN" overprint diagonally and a perforation "114" backwards. Copies seen: "LC 471,927" and "LD 451,069". Two other specimens signed André Duval / James Leclerc are numbered "LC000,001-LD500,000", "LD500,001-LD1,000,000". These have a blue number "12.345" in the upper margin and are perforated horizontally "SPECIMEN" in small characters. Two other specimens signed André Postel-Vinay / James Leclerc are numbered "LJ500,001-LL500,000", "LP500,001-LP750,000" and are perforated horizontally "SPECIMEN" in small characters. Photographic prints in black and white recto / verso of 5, 10 and 20 francs, signed André Duval / James Leclerc are known without numbering accompanied by an original envelope of approval.
