Description

Switzerland. Swiss National Bank (Schweizerische Nationalbank). Fifth issue (1954-1977). The note is dated 07-01-1954 but its entry into circulation begins on 29-03-1956. Permanently removed from circulation on 01-05-1980. Work by Hermann Eidenbenz. Printer: Art Institute Orell Füssli in Zurich. Dimensions: 155 x 85 mm. No watermark. No security thread. Front and back: Print in purple, orange, yellow, red, green and blue. Front: background consisting of graphic scroll shapes with a blue rosette with the Swiss cross in white. The numbering, the alphabet, the place, the date of issue and the signatures are printed in black. The SNB texts and the value in letters are printed in purple and in three languages: French, German and Italian. The value "20" is printed in the corners of the thumbnail and very large in the center. On the right, medallion portrait of "Guillaume Henri Dufour (1887-1875)", general, engineer, cartographer and Swiss politician. He is the main figure of victory over the Sonderbund, a war that played a key role in the emergence of modern Switzerland. He was also co-founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross in 1863 and its first president. Twenty-three issue dates and fourteen signature variants with The Cashier, The Chairman of the Board of the Bank and The Director. Back: on a curved blue and purple line, a stalkless Carline, typical of lean mountain pastures with spiky, cut leaves that looks like a big thistle. In a violet and blue rosette on the right of the flower, the value "20" and on the edges of the note, the names of the SNB in ​​three languages.
