Watermark: portrait of Gustave Eiffel. Front and back: polychrome printing with dominant red and orange. Description of the front: portrait of Gustave Eiffel (1832-1923) in front of the Garabit viaduct. In the background, the colorful detail of a frame evokes the Eiffel Tower. Below is a stylized representation of the Eiffel Tower. The signatures and the date are printed in red. Letter and 9-digit numbering in black at the bottom left. Description of the back: a view of the Eiffel Tower and the Champ-de-Mars during the Universal Exhibition of 1889 and in the background, the dome of the Palais des Beaux-Arts. Two combinations of signatures with the Secretary General, the Controller General and the Cashier General: a) Didier Bruneel, Jean Bonnardin and Claude Vigier and b) Didier Bruneel, Jean Bonnardin and Yves Barroux. Total amount authorized for creation from December 12, 1995 to October 8, 1999: 360 billion francs, or 1.8 billion banknotes (source: Banque of France). Deprivation of legal tender: February 17, 2002.
