Description

Canada. Bank of Canada. Commemorative Issue of 1935 for the 25 years of King George V's reign: Silver Jubilee. 25 Dollars Type 1935. Texts in French. Series "F" has been assigned to all French translated notes. Date of issue: 06-05-1935. Printer: Canadian Bank Note Company, Limited (CBNC). Series F: 20 000 issued notes. Dimensions: 152 x 73 mm. No watermark. No security thread. Note printed by sheet of four copies with an identical sheet number. To distinguish the four banknotes from the paper, two small Check Letters "A, B, C or D" were printed in black to the left of the value and to the right of the seal. Front and back: black and purple printing. Front: black and white frame decorated with abstract shapes and rosettes with the value "25" printed in the corners. Above the center of the frame in a black cartouche, the anniversary date of the reign "1910-1935". Below, the text of the issuing institution "LA BANQUE DU CANADA, paiera au porteur sur demande" is printed in black on two lines in the center. The banknote number is printed in red and repeated twice at the top. The serial letter is printed in red on the left of the number. On the left, the "25" in very large numbers and on the right, the official seal of the Bank of Canada, the group number of the denomination and the date of issue. In the middle, in two identical ovals, portraits of his HRH King George V and Queen Mary. When designing the note, the difficulty was to have the effigy of the king of the same size as that of the queen, because his crown was considerably larger. To solve the problem, the crown of the frame was overflowed, thus separating the words "PAIERA" and "AU PORTEUR SUR DEMANDE". Below the portraits, the mentions "VINGT-CINQUIEME ANNIVERSAIRE DE L'AVENEMENT DE S. M. LE ROI GEORGE V / VINGT-CINQ DOLLARS" are printed in a black cartouche. The notes have been delivered to the Bank without signatures and without seal. These were printed in black ink typography by the internal services of the Bank of Canada. Two types of signatures: Deputy Governor John Arundel Caulfield Osborne and Governor Graham Ford Towers. Back: frame composed of ornaments and rosettes printed in purple monochrome. The value "25" is printed in very large numbers on the sides in rosettes and four times smaller in the corners of the frame. Above, the text of the issuing institute "BANQUE DU CANADA" is printed in the center curved. In the middle, a view of Windsor Castle. The photo note (Ref: # BC-12) was sold in Choice About Uncirculated at $ 18,800.00 by Heritage Auctions, Auction # 418, Lot # 16104, from The Halton Lake Collection, 2006.
