Spain. Bourbon Restoration. Bank of Spain. 1875 Issues. Date: 01.01.1875. Dimensions: 145 x 87 mm. Material: paper. Watermark: BANCO DE / 25 / ESPAÑA. No security thread. 1,000,000 issued notes. Printer: Bradbury Wilkinson & Company, London. Front printing in black and green and back in green. Texts in Spanish. Description of the front: frame composed of small repeating patterns with the value "25" in the corners. In the center at the top in an oval medallion, beehives placed on a table (allegory of Activity). Below, the issuing institute "EL BANCO DE ESPAÑA", the black numbering repeated twice, "Pagará al portador (will pay to the bearer)", the value in letters "VEINTICINCO PESETAS", then the place and date of 'program. On the left in a decorated medallion, a young woman (allegory of Agriculture) holds a billhook in her hand and a sheaf of wheat on her shoulder. Three handwritten signatures in black at the bottom. A single combination of signatures with El Gobernador (The Governor), El Interventor (The Comptroller) and El Cajero (The Cashier). In the bottom center in an oval medallion, a caduceus is placed on bales of goods on a quay and in the distance a boat departs (allegory of Commerce). Counterfoils at left/right with “BANCO DE ESPAÑA” in vertical. Back description: green safety frame and background made up of small guilloche patterns with the value “25” in the corners. On the sides, two oval medallions containing a profile portrait of Mercury. A proof is known without overprint, without signatures, without perforation and without numbering.
