Description

Tunisia. Central Bank of Tunisia. 1962 Issues. 5 Dinars Type 1960. Date of issue: 20-3-1962. Withdrawal from circulation: 1-10-1968. Dimensions: 164 x 93 mm. Watermark: Tunisia coat of arms at top left. Printing: Bradbury, Wilkinson & Company, London, England. Front and back: Polychrome print, mainly blue and pink. Description of the front: Guilloche frame with a security background in blue, light green and pink gradient. The labels are printed in Arabic in the center at the top. Below, the signatures of General Manager Ali Zouaoui and Governor Hédi Amara Nouira and the date of issue "20-3-1962". On the right, a portrait of Habib Bourguiba and on the left side of the note, a view of a bridge located on the Mellègue river in Souk-el-Arba. The numerical value "5" and the numbering are repeated in black in the corners. Prefix "C / 10 to C / 24" before the number, but no banknote has yet been found for the alphabets "C / 10" to "C / 12" (source: François Virecoulon). Description of the back: thick guilloche frame composed of geometric shapes in repetition. The wording of the issuing institute is indicated in French "BANQUE CENTRALE DE TUNISIE". Below, a view of the arches of the interior of the great mosque of Kairouan, then the coat of arms of Tunisia in the center and an olive branch on the right, a symbol of peace. The value in western figures "5" is repeated in the lower corners and the value in letters, in French, is printed in the center at the bottom of the guilloche frame. The complete specimen is known as overprinted "SPECIMEN" in red oblique in the center on the front and back. s/n range: C / 13 000000. Replacement notes have the prefix "CR".
