Description

Switzerland. Swiss National Bank (Schweizerische Nationalbank). Second issue (1910-1955). Banknote issued on 03-08-1914 and removed from circulation on 01-05-1980. This Swiss note holds the record for longevity. Without value from 01-05-2000. Work of Balzer. Printer: Art Institute Orell Füssli in Zurich. Dimensions: 125 x 70 mm. No watermark. No security thread. Front and back: print in green and brown. Front: numbering, alphabet, labels, place and date of issue and signatures are printed in black. The value "5" is repeated twice to the right in medallions. In the center at the top, the Swiss cross in white. The texts are printed in three languages: French, German and Italian. On the left, portrait of "William Tell" in a medallion. Three variants of signatures with The Cashier, The Chairman of the Board of the Bank and The Director. Back: rosettes and ornaments with the value "5" roughly in the center and repeated four times in white in the corners. Known specimen with "SPECIMEN" overprint in red and diagonally on the front and back as seen on the 19W series and perforated with three cancellation holes. Another known specimen with the "SPECIMEN" overprint printed in pink and blue diagonally on the front. 1,765,592 copies were not returned. Other Reference: TBB (The Banknote Book): B305.
