Description
Algeria. French administration. Bank of Algeria. 1892-1926 Issues. Banknote identical to the 50 francs type 1873 "Blue with Algiers" (Pick # 17) but without the city "Algiers". Work by H. Cabasson and engraving by V. Bertrand. Dimensions: 157 x 109 mm. Watermark: BANK / 50 FRANCS / de L'ALGERIE / 50 and lion. Printer: Bank of France (Clermont-Ferrand). Front: monochrome blue print on white paper. The numbering and the value in letters are printed in black. The date of issue and the signatures are printed in blue. Composition with an oval frame decorated in the upper part, with two entwined snakes which frame article 139 of the Penal Code printed in a cartridge. On the sides, two cherubim each support a medallion containing the value in figures. Two variants of signatures with the Secretary General and the Chief Cashier. At the bottom, another medallion contains a woman's head. Back: monochrome printing in blue. Oval frame decorated with Arabic motifs and snakes in the upper part. At the bottom two cornucopias frame a sea anchor. In the center, the value "50" in figures in a medallion surrounded by arabesques. On the sides, two medallions contain article 139 of the Penal Code. In the decoration of the frame, four other medallions with the profile portraits of Athena, Hercules, Mercury and Ceres.
