The note is dated September 22, 1960. Monochrome front and back printing predominantly purple. Texts in French. Description on the front: security background made up of small patterns with fruit hanging from a branch on the right. Guilloche frame with the value "50" oblique in the corners and a succession of "0" and "5" forming a contour. In the center at the top, the words "BANK OF THE REPUBLIC OF MALI" are printed in white in the frame. Below, the value in letters, the date of issue and the signatures are printed in purple. The banknote number and series are printed in red. At the bottom, the article of the penal code is printed on one line. On the left, an official portrait of President Modibo Keita.
