The note is dated September 22, 1960. Front and back polychrome print predominantly blue, purple and yellow. Texts in French. Description of the front: security background in blue, yellow and purple gradient and with a repeating pattern. Guilloche frame with the value "50" printed in rosettes in the lower corners. At the top, the words "BANK OF THE REPUBLIC OF MALI" are printed in purple on a frieze. The banknote number and issue date are printed in black. The value in letters and the signatures are printed in purple over a purple rosette. Below, a view of the Markala dam on the Niger river. At the bottom, the article of the penal code is printed on a line near the frame. On the right, an official portrait of President Modibo Keita. A single combination of signatures with the Minister of State, Jean-Marie Koné, The Minister of Finance, Attaher Maïga and The Governor of the Bank, Alpha Oumar Cissé.
