Description

Spain. Bank of Spain. 1931-1935 Issues. Date: 25.04.1931. Dimensions: 131 x 85 mm. Material: paper. Watermark: woman's head in profile. Printer: Bradbury Wilkinson & Company, New Malden, Surrey. No security thread. Put into circulation: 15.02.1937. Polychrome front and back printing, predominantly purple, green, yellow and brown. Texts in Spanish. Description of the front: security background made up of guilloche patterns, rosettes and arabesques with the value "50" in the corners. In the center at the top, the issuing institute "EL BANCO DE ESPAÑA". Below, the words "Pagará al portador", the value in letters "CINCUENTA PESETAS" and the banknote number in black. In the middle, the place, the date of issue and the signatures in black. A single combination of signatures with El Gobernador (The Governor), El Interventor (The Comptroller) and El Cajero (The Cashier). On the right in an oval medallion, the watermark and on the left, a portrait of the Spanish realist painter Eduardo Rosales (1836-1873). Back description: purple and brown. On the left, the watermark and in the center, "The Death of Lucretia", a painting by Eduardo Rosales, Prado Museum in Madrid. Texts in Spanish. The numbering is repeated in red in the margin at the corners. The specimen is known to be perforated "CANCELLED" horizontally, without the signature of the Cashier and without perforation. 10,000,000 issued notes.
