Printer: American Bank Note Company (ABNC). Front printing in blue, red and black. Description of the front: On the right, a portrait of John Quincy Adams (1767-1848), American statesman and sixth president of the United States between 1825 and 1829. On the left, an allegory of Justice represented by a seated woman holding a scales and a sword. Large seal and numbering in red. The Act of March 3, 1863 is located vertically on the left edge. Ornamental frame with the text “FIVE HUNDRED 500” repeating. Two large black rosettes, one in the center with the number "500". Combination of signatures engraved with Allison (Treasury Register) and Spinner (United States Treasurer). Description of the back: Frame and safety background made up of repeating rosettes. In the center, in a large rose window, the text of the law: “This Note is a Legal Tender…” and the value “500” on the sides. The company issuing the banknotes is indicated at the bottom. The back is printed in green called "Greenback (money)".
