Front printing in red and black. Description of the front: On the right, a portrait of Major General Joseph King Fenno Mansfield (1803-1862). The Act of March 3, 1863 is located at the top border with the serial date. On the left, an allegory of Victory represented by a young woman in a white tunic, holding a braided crown and an olive branch. At his feet, a cannon and a ball. Two variants of seals: Large and brown or red and small and numbering in blue. Large black rosette in the center with the value "500". Numerous combinations of signatures with the Register of the Treasury and the Treasurer of the United States. Description of the back: Security background made up of arabesques and rosettes with the values "500" and "D" in the corners. In the center, in a large rosette, the value in letters “FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS” and on the left, the vertical text of the law: “This Note is a Legal Tender…”. The back is printed in green.
