Description
Belgium. National Bank of Belgium. 1927-1947 Belgas Issues. Banknote issued between 03-02-1938 and 14-10-1943. Removed from circulation on 09-10-1944. 500 francs - 100 belgas Type 1887 - 1938-1943. (Ref. TBB: # B564 or Pick: # 109). Designed by Henri Hendrickx. Dimensions: 205 x 125 mm. Printer: National Bank of Belgium. No security thread. Watermark: unknown. Front and back: polychromy print with blue and green dominant. Description of the front: all texts are in French. Oval frame made up of decorative patterns. Six cherubs and four allegorical figures illustrate the Arts (Music, Painting…) and the Sciences. Labels and values are printed in green. The date, banknote number and signatures are printed in black. At the bottom, we find the text of the Law printed on three lines in a blue frame. The note includes two variants of signatures with The Treasurer and The Governor. Description of the back: all texts are printed in Dutch. In the upper part, a frieze contains the coat of arms of the 9 Belgian provinces (of which only 8 coats of arms are visible!) with in the center the royal crown and the Belgian lion. On the sides two allegories represented by two seated women. In the background, there are other allegorical figures, including a woman driving a chariot pulled by two winged horses. Known series: 480 to 1662. Note identical to Pick # 103, but signatures are printed on the front and back!
