Description
New Hebrides. Overseas Issuing Institute. 1970-1980 Issues. The banknote is overprinted front and back in the center in black and horizontally with the words "NOUVELLES-HÉBRIDES" in cursive letters. Work by Vaudiau. Dimensions: 150 x 80 mm. Watermark: RF monogram and head of woman (Marianne) wearing a Phrygian cap. The note is undated but was issued in 1970, 1979 and 1980. Full color front and back printing mainly blue and purple and yellow. Texts in French. Description of the front: view of a coastal landscape of the island of Ua Pau located in the Marquesas archipelago. On the upper border, a view of the multicolored backgrounds of the Wallis lagoon and the label "OVERSEAS ISSUING INSTITUTE" printed in black in a yellow cartouche. Below, the full banknote number is printed in black in the drawing. On the left, motifs representing corals with gorgonians, fish, an octopus and next to them a circular medallion containing the watermark. In the center, a traditional outrigger and sailing canoe sailing in the lagoon. On the right, a portrait of a Polynesian fisherman armed with a trident for fishing. The value “500” is printed in black in green rectangles in the upper corners. The numbering and the alphabet are printed in black in small orange rectangles at the bottom of the note. Three combinations of signatures printed in black with The Chief Officer and The Chairman of the Board. Description of the back: on the upper border, an illustration of ridge sculptures with the label "OVERSEAS ISSUING INSTITUTE" printed in black in a yellow cartouche. Two black “NOUVELLES-HÉBRIDES” overprints on the drawing. On the left, a portrait of a young man from Ouvea (Loyalty Islands) next to a branch of mangrove and shells. In the background, the rock landscape of Hienghène in New Caledonia and the "beach of the 500 franc note"! On the right, harpoons and kanak ornaments. The value “500” is printed in black in the upper corners. Bottom center, article 139 of the penal code is printed in blue on four lines in a light yellow cartridge. Printer: Bank of France.
