Belgian Congo. Bank of the Belgian Congo. 1940-1952 Issues. Dimensions: 172 x 105 mm. Material: paper. Watermark: no. Printer: American Bank Note Company (ABNC). No security thread. The note is undated. Front and back printing predominantly brown, light blue, orange and yellow. Texts in French. Description of the front: frame composed of repeating patterns with the value "500" repeated in the corners inside rosettes. Vegetation on the sides. On the upper border, the issuing institute "BANK OF THE BELGIAN CONGO" and below in a circular medallion, the portrait of a young native in profile. Overprint in red in the center with the issue and the year. On the sides, two large rosettes containing the value "500". The series and banknote number are printed four times in red. The signatures are printed in black at the bottom. The Congolese star is printed in yellow in a blue rectangle below the value "FIVE HUNDRED FRANCS" and the words "PAYABLES AT SIGHT". The article of the penal code is printed in white on a line in the frame. A single combination of signatures with The Deputy Officer in Africa René Goeman and The Officer in Africa Richard Baseleer. Description of the back: frame composed of graphic shapes with the value "500" in the corners and on the sides. Texts in Dutch. Overprint in red at the center of the issue (UITGIFTE) and the year. In the center, a young native holding a spear and hiding in the jungle watches a herd of elephants bathing in a river. A first specimen is known overprinted twice "SPECIMEN" in red diagonally front / back and numbered "2 000 000". A second specimen is known overprinted twice "SPECIMEN" in red diagonally front / back and numbered "3 000 000". A last specimen is known overprinted twice "SPECIMEN" in red diagonally front / back and numbered "4 000 000".
