Central Bank of the West African States. 1959 Issue without Code Letter. 500 francs Type 1959. Work by M. Vaudiau. Printer: Bank of France, Paris. Dimensions: 139 x 90 mm. Watermark: woman's head in profile. Front and back: multicolored print, predominantly green, yellow and brown. On the front: a frame decorated with abstract patterns in rehearsal. In the center of the vignette, an evocation of traditional agriculture with four African farmers working in a field. On the right, a bronze sculpture from Benin in the 13th century representing a bust of a young woman. At the top of the bill in the center in dark blue, the issuing institute "CENTRAL BANK OF THE WEST AFRICAN STATES". The value “500” is printed in dark blue in the two upper corners. The numbering, date and signatures are printed in black. A single type of signature with The President, Robert Tezenas du Montcel and The Director General, Robert Julienne. On the back: on the left, a young African woman in the foreground of a mechanical plowing scene evoking the development of modern agriculture. On the right, an abstract sculpture in ebony wood. The value “500” is printed in blue in the upper corners. At the top, the issuing institute "CENTRAL BANK OF THE WEST AFRICAN STATES" is printed in dark blue in the frame. At the bottom of the note, article 139 of the Penal Code is printed in a yellow rectangle. The specimen is dated "00-00-0000", numbered "O.00-00000", perforated "SPECIMEN" vertically and bearing the signatures of R. Tezenas du Montcel and R. Julienne. A “SPECIMEN” overprint in black stamp with a four-digit specimen number is affixed obliquely on the left side of the banknote.
