About #80 - 500 lire Type 1947-1961
Italy. Banca d'Italia. 1947-1961 Issues. Dimensions: 144 x 70 mm. Watermark: head of Italy in profile. Printer: Officina dell'Istituto Poligrafico dello Stato di Roma. No security thread. Material: paper. Polychrome front and back printing, predominantly purple, brown and red. Description of the front: frame composed of guilloche patterns. On the left in a guilloche frame, an allegorical female figure personifying Italy with ears of wheat in her hair. Below, a seal in red with the head of Medusa. The date of issue is printed in red in the lower margin. The numbering is printed in black and the signatures are printed in brown. Two combinations of signatures with The Governor and The Cashier. Back description: frame and safety backing made up of guilloche patterns with the value “500” in the corners. The words "Banca d'Italia" at the top, the value "500" in a rose window in the center and the text of the law below. On the right, the Bank of Italy “BI” monogram. No specimen known for the Type. Replacement note with the W series.
