Polychrome front and back printing, predominantly black and blue. Texts in Spanish. Description of the front: frame in bas-relief decorated with floral motifs in rehearsal. In the center at the top, the issuing institute "EL BANCO DE ESPAÑA". Below, the words "Pagará el portador", the value in letters "QUINENTAS PESETAS" and the value "500" in gray. Number of the banknote in red repeated twice below with the cardinal's coat of arms in the center. A single combination of signatures with El Gobernador (The Governor), El Interventor (The Comptroller) and El Cajero (The Cashier). On the left, a portrait of the Spanish cardinal Francisco Jimenez de Cisneros (1436-1517). Description of the back: the numbering is repeated in red in the upper corners. In the center, a crowned medallion surrounded by two lions, contains a view of the Cathedral of Toledo. The value "500" is repeated in the corners. Coat of arms of Spain on the left and those of Austria on the right. A dozen proofs are known on the front only or front / back, undated, unsigned, unperforated and some numbered "000000" in red.
