Description

Algeria. French administration. Bank of Algeria and Tunisia. Creation date: October 5, 1949. Work of William Fel and engraving of Marliat for the front and Broutin for the back. Dimensions: 206 x 105 mm. Watermark: profile of a Moorish woman in a square medallion on the right. Front and back: polychrome print predominantly yellow, orange and gray. Description of the front: the wording of the issuing institute changes and becomes “BANQUE DE L'ALGÉRIE ET ​​DE TUNISIE”. This label and the values ​​are printed in dark brown. The numbering, signatures and date of issue are printed in black. On the left, a head in profile of Apollo, after a Roman sculpture discovered in 1910 and exhibited at the Museum of Cherchell. In the center, in a rectangle, a floral composition comprising the three signatures and the date of issue and, depending on the year, with and without letters surrounding the date. Below, article 139 of the Penal Code is printed on two lines in a dark cartouche. Two variants of signatures are known with The Secretary General, The Governor and The Cashier General. Description of the back: in the center, a representation of the Trajan Triumphal arch located in Timgad (Pompeii of Africa). Below, the wording of the issuing institute "BANQUE DE L'ALGÉRIE ET ​​DE TUNISIE" translated into Arabic. On the sides, several bas-reliefs and the value "5000" written in Arabic in the lower corners. At the bottom of the note, between two stylized flowers in bas-relief, article 139 of the Penal Code written in Arabic on one line. The specimen is known to be perforated "SPECIMEN" vertically at the location of the watermark. The note is watermarked, signed Delahaye / Flouret / Civier, dated "0-0-0000" and numbered "O.000 - 000". A specimen identical to the previous one is known, numbered "O.0 - 000" and dated "00-00-0000".
