Printer: VEB Wertpapierdruckerei, Leipzig. Multicolored front and back printing, predominantly brown. Description of the front: Frame and background composed of guilloche patterns. Texts in German. Portrait of the German naturalist and explorer Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859). Letter and numbering in red. Value "5 FÜNF" in a rosette on the left with the coat of arms of Germany. No signature. Description of the back: Texts in German. Coat of arms of Germany. Frame and background composed of guilloche patterns. Letter value "FÜNF MARK" below a view of the entrance to the Humboldt University building in East Berlin. Replacement note with Y or Z prefix.
