New Caledonia. Bank of New Caledonia. 1875 Issues. Work by Guillaume Cabasson (Inv.) and engraving by Smeeton-Tilly (Scup.). The date of issue is not indicated but all banknotes bear the date of creation of the bank and the date of issue of the banknotes: 1875. Dimensions: 147 x 87 mm. Watermark: Unknown. Printer: Banque of France. Monochrome front and back printing, predominantly blue or black. Description of the front: On the left, the date of issue: “Nouméa, le… 18.”. Frame with rounded corners composed of arabesques and stylized leaves with the value "20" repeated in the corners. On the sides, two young Melanesians seated. At the top center, the issuing institute "Banque de la Nouvelle-Calédonie", the words "Il sera payé à vue et au porteur (It will be paid at sight and to bearer)" and the value "TWENTY FRANCS" in black letters. Below is the location for the handwritten signatures of the Director and two Administrators. At the bottom, a decorated cartouche contains article 139 of the penal code in six lines. The series and number are printed in black and repeated twice. Description of the back: Identical frame to the front. Monochrome blue or black printing. On the sides, a young Melanesian and a European surveyor frame a decorated cartouche containing article 139 of the penal code and a medallion with the text "Banque de la Nouvelle-Calédonie". Unissued. Very rare.
