New Caledonia. Bank of New Caledonia. 1875 Issues. Work by Guillaume Cabasson (Inv.) and engraving by Smeeton-Tilly (Scup.). The date of issue is not indicated but all banknotes bear the date of creation of the bank and the date of issue of the banknotes: 1875. Dimensions: 119 x 76 mm. Watermark: Unknown. Printer: Banque of France. Monochrome front and back printing, predominantly blue. Description of the front: The value "5" is repeated in the corners of the frame. On the sides, two young Melanesians seated. At the top center, the issuing institute "Banque de la Nouvelle-Calédonie", the words "Il sera payé à vue et au porteur (It will be paid on sight and to bearer)" and the value in black letters. Below, the location for the handwritten signatures of the Director and two Administrators. Below, a decorated cartouche intended to contain article 139 of the penal code. No serial or number. Description of the back: Identical frame to the front. Monochrome blue or black printing. On the sides, a young Melanesian and a European surveyor frame a decorated cartouche containing article 139 of the penal code and a medallion with the text "Banque de la Nouvelle-Calédonie". Unissued. Very rare.
