About #15 - 5 francs Type 1916
New Caledonia. Bank of Indo-China. 1900-1916 Issues. Work of Daniel Dupuis and Georges Duval. Engraving by Leveille. Dimensions: 141 x 106 mm. Material: Paper. Watermark: No. Printer: Banque of France. Note bearing the decrees of January 21, 1875, February 20, 1888, May 16, 1900 and April 3, 1901. Various issue dates: “Nouméa, le…”. Put into circulation from November 1916. Two-color printing on both sides, predominantly blue and red. Texts in French. Description of the front: Ornamental frame composed of small dragons in bas-relief decorating two columns which support a large arch. On it, dragon snake decorations frame a pediment containing the wording of the issuing institute in capital letters "BANQUE DE L'INDO-CHINE". The banknote number and series are the only elements printed in black. On the left, a young Asian woman dressed in black and holding a bamboo stick in her right hand, sits at the foot of an allegory of colonial France represented by a European woman wearing a laurel wreath and seated on a throne. In his left hand, a caduceus with two snakes and a sheaf of wheat at his feet. On the right, the decrees, the place and date of issue, the value in letters "FIVE FRANCS" and the signatures are printed in red. A combination of two signatures printed in red with the Administrator-Director, Stanislas Simon and an Administrator, Baron Hely d'Oissel. Description of the back: Ornamental frame composed of repeating shapes and two floral rosettes per side. The number "5" is printed in a cartridge at the corners. The background has the text "BANQUEDEL'INDO-CHINE" repeated. Above, a large Chinese dragon. On the sides, article 139 of the penal code is printed on eleven lines. 500,000 issued notes. 6,072 banknotes were still in circulation in 1956 for the two types of 5 francs (Pick: # 15 and # 16).
