All banknotes bear the date of creation of the bank and the date of issue of the banknotes: 1875. Dimensions: 240 x 220 mm. Watermark: Unknown. Printer: Banque of France. Monochrome front and back printing, predominantly blue. Description of the front: Octagonal frame composed of arabesques and stylized leaves with the value "500" repeated in the corners. On the left, the date of issue: "Nouméa, le ... 1876.", the counterfoil cut out and next to it, a bundle of local weapons. A colonist wearing a hat poses with his hands resting on a shovel and a gourd slung over his shoulder. In the background, a cow lying down and a sheep from behind symbolize breeding. On the right, a cluster of local weapons and a mask. A Melanesian dressed in a loincloth holds a stick in his hands. Exotic fruits litter the ground beside it. In the center, a Saint-Jaques shell, the issuing institute "Banque de la Nouvelle-Calédonie", the words "Il sera payé à vue et au porteur (It will be paid on sight and to bearer)" and the value in black letters. Below, the location for the handwritten signatures of the Director and two Administrators, Chopart and Denis. At the bottom, a decorated cartouche contains article 139 of the penal code in five lines. No serial or number.
