The note is overprinted on the front with the mention in black "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" and with the mention "NOUMÉA" in blue in the center of the back. Work by Raymond Vaudiau. Dimensions: 172 x 92 mm. Watermark: RF monogram and head of woman (Marianne) wearing a Phrygian cap. Solid security thread with printed IEOM. Printer: Bank of France. The note is undated but was issued from 1971. Polychrome front and back printing predominantly green, purple and yellow. Texts in French. Description of the front: on the left, a bust portrait of Louis-Antoine de Bougainville (1729-1811). On the upper border, patterns of Tahitian printed fabrics and the wording “OVERSEAS ISSUING INSTITUTE” printed in black in a purple cartridge. Below, the full banknote number is printed in black in a purple cartridge. The words "FRENCH REPUBLIC" in black printed on the top of the drawing in the center. In the center, three ships at anchor, the frigate "La Boudeuse", the flute (cargo ship) and "L’Étoile" belonging to the navigator’s expedition are probably represented on the banknote. On the right, a sextant and the bow of a ship. The value "5000" is printed in black in green rectangles in the upper corners. The value "FIVE THOUSAND FRANCS" is printed in black in the drawing under the ships. The numbering and the alphabet are printed in black in small purple rectangles at the bottom and at the top of the note. Three combinations of signatures printed in black with The Chief Officer and The Chairman of the Board. Below, the light blue overprint "NOUMÉA". On the right, a portrait of Rear Admiral Auguste Febvrier-Despointes (1796-1855) who took possession of New Caledonia in September 1853. In the background, a tongiaki, a large Austronesian double hull dugout canoe similar to a catamaran from Tonga. On the left, a vegetation of flowers and patterns.
