Printer: Thomas De La Rue & Company, Limited (TDLR), London, England. Front: Polychrome printing predominantly blue, green and orange. Description of the front: Border frame with spear tips and guilloche patterns. Arab dhow boat on see at left. Nine workers harvesting clove tree with rudimentary ladder at right. Texts in Arabic, English and Gujarati. Series and numbering in black. Texts: The Zanzibar Government / Promises to pay the bearer / on Demand the Sum of / One rupee. Signatures: Chief Secretary, John Houston Sinclair and Treasurer, James Corbett Davis. No back: Uniface note. The photo note was sold $9,600 by Stack’s Bowers in May 2020, Hong Kong Auction - Session B (lot # 54423). Graded PMG Fine 12. Demonetized in 1936.
