In Europe, the company has an office in Munich.

Why have your collector banknotes engraved?

The grading of old banknotes is a service that comes at a price. It should therefore only be done in certain cases. Here are the cases in which we advise you to have your banknotes graded/slabbed.

How is grading carried out?

At PMG, the grading process is carried out by at least two professionals who are experts in paper money. To guarantee impartiality, the graders, who are PMG employees, cannot be involved in the buying and selling of banknotes.

First of all, the expert identifies or confirms the banknote's identification and fills in the information that will be present on the slab header.

Each appraiser then examines the banknote independently and scores the quality in the central database. PMG uses a quality rating scale that is recognized within the numismatic community. If there is disagreement between the 2 professionals, the banknote is re-analyzed to reach a consensus.

There are 13 quality levels and 28 sub-levels.

How much does banknote grading cost?

The price varies according to the age of the banknote (issued before or after 1960) and its estimated value (5 steps).

An additional cost must be added for large banknotes (as the slab is adapted to the size of the banknote).
