During an interim period following the creation of the young Canadian Confederation, the Province of Canada's banknotes were renamed and became the first national currency of the Dominion of Canada. This notes begin to circulate in the other Dominion provinces. Between 1870 and 1871,the Dominion of Canada's first notes were issued in denominations of 25 cents, $ 1, $ 2, $ 500 and $ 1,000. $ 50 and $ 100 denominations will be put into circulation in 1872.
