Presentation

The 50 francs Belain d'Esnambuc Type 1946 is the work of artist William Fel (1885-1957) and the engraving was produced by Georges Régnier (1878-?). The note does not have an issue date but was put into circulation in 1946. These dimensions are 144 x 78 mm. It has a watermark with a head of Ceres in profile looking to the right. Front and back: multicolored printing. Description of the front: the frame consists of links forming a yellow and orange chain. We always find the value in letters and numbers printed in the center and in the upper right corner. Their color varies according to the place of issue (red, blue or brown). The numbering and signature are printed in black. On the left side, a portrait of Pierre Belain d'Esnambuc (1585-1637), French settler and filibuster at the origin of the French presence in the Antilles. On the right side, a period caravel sails with all sails out on the ocean. Only one signature is affixed on the front, that of the Managing Director: André Postel-Vinay. At the bottom, the name "Belain d'Esnambuc" is indicated in a rectangle from which starts the chain forming the frame. Description of the back: the numerical value is systematically printed in red in the upper corners. On the left side, a woman from Togo wearing jewelry and wearing a colorful scarf poses in front of a hut in her village. Behind her, a multicolored tribal mask. On the right, other tribal decorations comprising article 139 of the Penal Code printed in a rectangle from which the links forming the chain of the frame leave.
