In the “Internet Auction Billets August 2021” sale by cgb.fr which closes today Tuesday August 10, 2021, a rare copy of the 50 francs type 1868 “Blue with black indices” (Ref. Fayette-Dessal: # F.A38.04 or Pick: # 51a) is offered for auction (Lot # 4480230). The note, in VF grade, is estimated between € 4,500 and € 8,500. This copy is numbered "D.49-290" and is dated September 14, 1870. In 2016, cgb.fr had already offered this note at € 9,000 during the sale of the collection of Doctor Pierre Gosselin (Lot # 4080188) or page 183 of the paper catalog (1). This is the 4th known copy for the year 1870 out of a total of 64 banknotes referenced for the type (2).

Concerning the banknotes of the year 1870, this reference was issued between April 21 and October 15, ie 31 alphabets ranging from 30 to 60. The only months known for the moment are: August, September and October. The two signatures affixed to the banknote are those with The Principal Cashier, Mignot and The Secretary General, Marsaud.
