Following our recent news of August 20, 2021 on the 100-franc banknote type 1882, a collector sent us a splendid proof without watermark and dated March 15, 1882. The banknote is numbered A.0 - 000 but without signatures. This proof, the date of which is completely new for the type, therefore enriches the prestigious collection of 19th century banknotes!
4 types of proofs would henceforth be known for this reference:
- February 31, 1882 (1),
- March 15, 1882,
- August 15, 1882 (2),
- April 31, 1884 (2).
(1)This first date is oddly not mentioned in the "La cote des billets", 2019 edition by MM. Claude Fayette and Jean-Marc Dessal (cf. pages 128-129). However, this event was sold twice by cgb.fr in 2004 and 2009! An oversight, no doubt.
(2) Concerning the proofs of August 15, 1882 and April 31, 1884, although these are mentioned in the reference catalog, we have never seen copies. Are these numbered, signed or watermarked? To confirm this, we are appealing to all collectors who are lucky enough to have one or the other of these two dates. Contact us.
